Annotation editor
Annotate after upgrade. You capture on the Mac, then mark up in SnapMatrix once the yearly plan is active. A yearly CHILVIEW LLC license unlocks annotation, recording, Library, and the rest of SnapMatrix. The screenshot path does not wait on that license.
Screen recording
Screen recording runs in the same desktop app as the screenshot, not in a browser tab. Record in SnapMatrix once the yearly plan is active.
On-Mac Library
Library stays on the user’s Mac. Captures stay with the app on that computer, not in a Chilview-hosted album. The Library is local to the Mac that runs SnapMatrix.
Privacy-safe
Captures stay on the user’s Mac — Chilview hosts nothing. CHILVIEW LLC does not host, upload, or collect customer screenshots or recordings.
If you connect your own backend, that connection is yours. Files remain local unless the user connects their own backend. SnapMatrix does not require a Chilview server to keep a Library. Connecting a backend is optional and remains the user’s own setup.
Who it’s for
People who document, teach, or report from the screen. That means walkthroughs, class examples, and reports that need a capture of what is on the display.
For that same work, SnapMatrix can be a Snagit alternative on Mac: screenshot first, then unlock annotation and screen recording with a yearly plan. Mac first; Windows later. This is not the Chilview Chrome extension and not a web app.

What is Chilview SnapMatrix?

Is SnapMatrix free?
Screenshots are free forever. The annotation editor, screen recording, Grab Text OCR and Library unlock with a paid yearly plan: $34.99/year for individuals, and $37.99/user/year for organizations of 1-100 users ($34.99/user/year at 101+ users). There is no monthly plan.
How is SnapMatrix different from Snagit?
Snagit is now sold inside the Camtasia suite, with business pricing at $198/user/year, and the last perpetual Snagit versions lose support on December 31, 2026. SnapMatrix is a Mac-native alternative at $34.99/year that keeps every capture on your own Mac instead of a vendor cloud.
Does SnapMatrix work on Windows?
Not yet. SnapMatrix is built for Mac (macOS) today. A Windows version is planned for launch in June 2027.
Where are my captures stored?
On your Mac, in the app's local Library. SnapMatrix does not upload captures to Chilview servers; organizations can optionally connect their own storage backend.
